Hundreds gather to see hospital choir perform
The West Suffolk Hospital choir raised the roof just before Christmas at a concert in Bury St Edmunds.
The cast of staff, who all work at the hospital, teamed up with St Edmundsbury Male Voice Choir for the event and performed up-to-date contemporary and traditional songs from artists including Gary Barlow, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lou Reed. They raised £1,350 for the hospital’s My WiSH Every Heart Matters appeal.
Dr Phillippa Lawson, respiratory consultant at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, founded the choir, called Lift. She said: “This concert was a unique event where two very different choirs joined forces. We in Lift perform quite different pieces of music compared with the Male Voice Choir but, for me, it really worked as a whole and the audience certainly seemed to think so. We have even proposed further joint events in the future! Creating Lift has not only given the opportunity for staff across West Suffolk Hospital to come together and get to know each other but it also has allowed us to show our local community who we are as people and how much we care for our community. It is good to meet each other in a different setting!”
