Welcome to the third ‘Can Do Health and Care’ newsletter. ‘Can Do Health and Care’ is about local health and care services working in a more joined up way. Health, care, voluntary and community organisations in Suffolk and North East Essex are working together with a shared vision and plans to improve the health and care outcomes for the one million people living locally. This newsletter will keep you up to date with some of our key projects and news.

Focus on volunteering

Two years ago, Mary Baker from Jaywick near Clacton felt down and deflated and said at the time she had little to look forward to. She turned to Community Voluntary Services Tendring where she learnt about volunteering and opportunities to help out in her community.

The drive to prevent ill health and support our local communities through better joined-up health and social care services has been given a major cash boost. Almost £5 million has been awarded to 46 individual projects operated by voluntary, community and public sector organisations across east and west Suffolk.

New unit to transform emergency care

A new state-of-the-art unit is set to transform how the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust assesses and treats emergency patients. The Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) is being built behind West Suffolk Hospital’s emergency department and is due to open in December.

Over £200,000 has been provisionally awarded to support Colchester Borough Council and Colchester Borough Homes to reduce the number of people sleeping rough.
